Howard Mason | Angie Spencer
Most painters look, but few actually see. Confluence at Aleph Contemporary is an exhibition about the difference between the two.
Howard Mason is a story teller in paint observing people, he hunts for the small, heavy moments: he is fascinated by their expressions, feelings and moods and creates strange narratives of human nature. Often referencing old masters, Mason captures something quintessentially human.
Angie Spencer works en plein air and is fascinated by the conjunction of light and water. Her work focuses on the restlessness of water — rivers that don't sit still and reflections that break apart. It is less about a "view" and more about the wildness of nature that settles into rhythm, the layered energy of being outside.
One artist looks at nature, the other at people, but both are chasing the same thing: the feeling of a moment just before it disappears. There is no "documentation" here. Only paint, rhythm, and the result of real observation.
CONFLUENCE opens at Aleph Contemporary (alephcontemporary.com) on Friday 10th July 2026 and runs until Sat 29 August. Follow Angie Spencer on Instagram @angiespencerpaintings and visit angiespencer.co.uk. Follow Howard Mason on Instagram @howardmason.art and visit howardmasonart.com
