Red - Yellow - Blue
Marek Tobolewski: Red – Yellow – Blue
28 March – 16 May 2026
Aleph Contemporary, Stroud
This exhibition presents new work by Marek Tobolewski and marks his second show with Aleph Contemporary. The exhibition derives its name from three recent works red, yellow and blue, continuing Tobolewski’s long-standing exploration of abstraction, symmetry and line.
Tobolewski has produced non-representational work for nearly four decades across painting, drawing and print. Drawing underpins his practice, with compositions often built from freehand linear structures and central voids. His works frequently explore balance between movement and stillness through mirrored forms, repeated arcs and layered colour.
The artist works without masking, developing each piece through a slow and iterative process. Completed works often inform subsequent compositions, creating a continuous evolution within his practice. The making of individual drawings and paintings can take months, reflecting a deliberate and methodical approach.
Born in 1964, Tobolewski lives and works in Nottingham and is based at PRIMARY. His work is held in private and public collections in the UK and USA, and he has received awards including support from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation.
Red – Yellow – Blue continues the artist’s investigation into symmetry, colour and line, presented in a focused selection of recent works.
