Aleph Contemporary is delighted to present Coherent Flux, a solo exhibition of new sculptures by Simon Tayler.

Tayler’s work navigates the shifting territory between the organic and the mechanical, the balanced and the unstable, the grounded and the imagined. Working primarily in wood, he constructs intricate, curving forms through an incremental, almost mathematical process—each adjustment a factor that determines whether a line swells outward or contracts inward. The result is a body of work that feels at once methodical and intuitive, empirical and contemplative.

For Tayler, these curving trajectories are metaphors for states of mind: thoughts that emerge smoothly into coherence, or else knot themselves in tension and flux. His sculptures touch the ground, stabilised by literal points of contact, yet reach beyond—like dishes tuned to listen, transmit or mediate between inner and outer worlds.

Technically meticulous and deeply time-intensive, the works in Coherent Flux embody patience, rhythm and reflection. They are objects of balance and imbalance, of repetition and release, poised between mathematical order and human uncertainty.

Following a successful career in film and television special effects, Tayler returned to his first love—sculpture—and relocated from London to Stroud in 2024. He holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Sculpture from Liverpool School of Art, where he was awarded the postgraduate John Moores Scholarship.
