'VIOLENTLY HAPPY' at Aleph Contemporary Gallery in Stroud, an expansive exhibition of over 120 paintings by Enzo Marra, dramatically installed floor to ceiling and running until May 27th, 2025. Located on Station Road, opposite the Stroud Hotel, the show offers insight into Marra’s artistic world, where process, observation, and an evolving experimentation between material and subject take centre stage. Growing up with an Italian heritage and absorbing visual culture from religious iconography and Italian landscapes, Marra's instinctive understanding of imagery forms the foundation of his work. His formal studies further honed his practice, emphasising material exploration and intellectual inquiry. This exhibition, featuring works such as 'Finger Sandwich,' 'Nude,' 'Finger Painting,' 'Wind Turbine,' 'ripped book,' and 'Cryptic Gravestone,' highlights Marra's investigation into presence through the act of painting itself, his layered surfaces and assertive brushwork creating a tangible immediacy. 'VIOLENTLY HAPPY'.
