Tess Williams British, b. 1985
'Wrangler', 2019
Oil and acrylic on canvas
175 x 135 cm
Signed and dated verso
After initially being saturated with inks, acrylic and oil, all the sections of canvas used to make ‘Wrangler' have been twice machined washed. By exploring the addition and then removal of paint via washing - we are left with a distressed and raw surface. Multiple pieces of canvas are then brought together by sewing – some seams are left exposed to become part of the work. The final composition takes place when the sewn painting is stretched and then worked back into with oil & acrylic paints.
