Tess Williams British, b. 1985
'Bellevue', 2019
Oil and acrylic on canvas
100 x 80 cm
Signed and dated verso
This collaged work explores the contrasts between the masculine and feminine of colour and material (a recurring theme in Williams' work). The soft, fleshy, bodily pink against the hard lines of gritty black. Each one emphasises the other, and in addition to the positive and negative space, a compositional tension is formed in the painting.
