Deborah Cox British

Deborah Cox,winner of The 2023 Laurie Lee Prize for Literature,is an artist as well as a writer. Her work emanates from a sense of place, namely Gloucestershire, where she grew up.

Her response to the landscape, using waterbased media is immediate, expressive and visceral. Having grown up in a village with ‘roses round the door’,she is not concerned with the Romantic or Picturesque but with the unseen; the non visible. In both her writing and painting she explores issues of family dysfuction, intensive farming and river pollution.
