Virginia Verran 英国，生于1961年

无论是素描还是绘画，都有一种对材料直觉而即时的回应，融入偶然与意外，以及经过高度自觉控制的重复图案，从而营造出复杂而细致的沉思之所。图形化的符号与象征在作品表面以一种打击乐般的抽象层次运作，有时会增添欢庆的意味或阴暗的底色。光是最重要的元素，在绘画中，我采用的方法是通过擦除来显现光，而非强加于画面。绘画有着不同的要求与关注：通过时而轻柔、时而用力地擦去湿润的颜料层来寻找图像，以显露人的存在，但这又被流动的薄涂和施加于表面的图案所调和，它们在画面上穿梭交织。寻找一种可触知的温暖（我认为那是人性的）、一种包裹着光的温暖，一直是我绘画时的根本关注。这与素描的关注截然不同，在素描中，借助图形线条、拼贴，有时还有小块画布的添加，暗示出一片更广阔的压缩、层叠的空间，并融入边界、山丘、岛屿、小炸弹、微小建筑、棋盘格田野和来自空中的威胁等符号与象征。
