The painting depicts the artist in three stages of life — as infant, middle-aged man, and elder — woven together in a tender domestic scene. The baby, held between two adult figures, gazes toward a hexagonal mirror that reflects not only its own face but also the aged self it will one day become. This layered composition bridges generations within a single moment, suggesting both the fragility and permanence of selfhood. Mason’s meticulous realism and quiet emotional charge evoke the passage of time as something both intimate and universal — a reflection on life’s circular nature and the inevitability of becoming one’s own past, present, and future.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0907/7335/6877/files/alephcontemporary-howard-mason-me-myself-and-i-2021.webp?v=1755805829
